Child I Will Cherish You
Child I will cherish you as long as you may need me,
I will help you build your dreams and that will truly please me.
You may be just what you want to be and all I ask of you,
whatever you decide it is do it the best that you can do.
And I’d like to see you try because I cherish you, my child.
Little child you are teaching me too,
how often you’ve reminded me of things that I once knew.
I want to share your happiness I want to share your joy,
You have the power to make me feel like I’m a little boy.
And I’d like to tell you why, because I cherish you, my child.
Child I will cherish you, I’ll be there when you need me,
Yet I know well that we may not be always in agreement.
I’ll help you realize there are times when life may hurt you.
If you can bring yourself to smile, love will not desert you child.
And I’d like to see you try because I cherish you, my child.
Child I will cherish you and someday you won’t need me.
This will break my heart and yet this will truly please me.
Knowing that you need me not, it won’t be very easy.
Yet I will draw myself aside, content that you don’t need me child.
And I’d like to tell you why, because I cherish you, my child.
